Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece

Athens, Greece

Athens, the capital of Greece, is home to the iconic Parthenon, located on the hill called the Acropolis that rises above the city. The Acropolis overlooks the Agora, the commercial and civic heart of ancient Athens, where the philosophers Plato and Socrates once walked. Athens also has two of Greece’s top museums: the New Acropolis Museum, which displays artifacts from the site, and the National Archaeological Museum, where you can contemplate art from antiquity recovered around the country.

Athens serves as the bearer of the timeless Grecian architecture and tradition. Also known as the Sacred Rock, archeological findings shows that the hill where the Acropolis of Athens is situated has been occupied as far back as fourth millennium BC. Interestingly, this was the birthplace of the concept of freedom and democracy, philosophy, theatre, and most importantly, free speech.

Monastery Meteora Greece.
Monastery at Meteora Greece.

Meteora, Greece

Serves as the home of monolithic pillars towering in mid-air, 1,200 feet above the ground, Meteora is considered as the largest monastery of Eastern Orthodox in Greece. It offers a panoramic view of the northern villages Kalambaka and Kastraki in the central mainland Greece. Meteora is probably one of my favorite of the 8 awesome places to visit in Greece.

Serene, spiritual, magical, mystical, extraordinary, breathtaking, immense, inspiring, impressive. These are only some of the words people very often use in an effort to describe Meteora. A trip to Meteora offers the unique experience of nature’s grandeur in conjunction with history, architecture and man’s everlasting desire to connect with the Divine. From the early Christian times, the Meteora vertical cliffs were regarded as the perfect place to achieve absolute isolation, to discover peace and harmony and, thus, to support man’s eternal struggle for spiritual elevation.

The first monks of Meteora arrived back in the 14th century establishing an entire monastic community on top of the giant cliffs.
